Happy New Year! Our Top Producers of 2018

I live a very isolationist life but sometimes I infiltrate some alien influences, some black market pirates and somewhat illegal goods to my cuisine. At the end of the day, 1898 is the ultimate melting pot, call it cultural appropriation, we call it the apex of multiculturalism! This is why Raw Veganism and Fruitarianism are important, most people think, you appreciate another's culture through cuisine, eating cockroaches, pesto pasta, Pad Thai, stir fry, veal, Gazpacho, curated ham, Clam Chowder, etc. As one wise Raw Vegan said, eating cooked food is like candy and far from reality. One is in contact with culture through the fallen fruits, eating the fresh mangoes while being barefoot in Harajuku or Gangnam. Who cares about culture? When you have 1898 aka the machine of culture, the machine of the Third World...

Here are 1898's and Alt-Jpop's top pirates of 2018.

Lil Texas

Even if Hardcore music isn't really our thing, we must admit that Lil Texas the Speed Kink has influenced us conceptually and sonically. His fast paced 200 bpm Texcore feels like a very problematic prolonged joke. Lil Texas makes me wanna drill oil, brickwall that bich, ride a horse in Mexico City with Alexis Texas and defend the 2nd Amendment.

foodman

I have messaged foodman so many times, I even invited him to collab. He must hate 1898 though, but it's ok, I will always respect foodman. He has been in 1898's palette since its foundation. Some people relate foodman to Vaporwave and post-Vaporwave, this is obviously a very basic thing to say, foodman is much more ambitious than people paint him to be. His pointillistic Accelerationism is like no other. His fragmentation is so fragmented that you forget fragmentation, he takes you point by point, no sign of grime, of filth, or capital. Foodman's beatz reduce musicality to a graph, his music is completely deprived, it's purely axiomatic and quasi generative, something he implied in his Neo-Noise Landmark "Ez Minzoku." Even if he appears banal, his banality is a dress for his underlying and accidental complexity. His analogy of music and food is one of the most precise concepts in Noise and experimental music. Foodman's concept is quite compatible with Veganism and other diets, since the origin of Ethics are culinary, you are what you eat.

Yunomi

Maybe, EDM's approach to sidechaining is one of the most corrupt things ever invented. Yunomi says "there aint enough sidechain, not enough layers." Yunomi is probably one of the greatest Jpop composers of all time, his intensive layering, ridiculous melodies, his appropriation of Future Bass, hyper-Orientalism are like no other. As producers for, from DJ Melania 666 to Alt-Jpop we owe our year to Yunomi, he motivated us to take it further as Hyperbaroque Electronic Music Composers, to layer till finding the FDA approved cure for OCD. We have assimilated many of these beatmaking philosophies but at the same time we distance ourselves from it. At the end of the day, the avant-garde insists in producers like Yunomi.

SOPHIE

We are gonna stop the BS, and the PC Music denialism. We all know 1898 is within the PC Music-Sophie Ontological Realm. We really don't have to say anything about it. It is what it is. PC Music is the true motor Accelerationist Electronic. As a PC Music theorist I'm not really that interested in Sophie's Oil in every forgot the rest since I oppose albums. But beatz like Faceshopping and Ponyboy did in 1 year what Avant Music couldn't do in a century.

Haruko Tajima

Haruko is a very strange, talented and psychedelic bedroom producer from Japan. Her music is very unique, personality penetrates in every second. Her productions are very diverse, in a very schizo manner she appropriates every genre unimaginable. Her Jpop evades many rigid staples of the kawaii subculture and she also makes her own beatz. She is not very big but she has a very loyal audience.

PARKGOLF

I kind of knew who PARKGOLF was but recently I discovered he was behind many Jpop tracks I enjoyed. His productions with Akko Gorilla are probably one of the most unique pop beatz I have ever listened this year. I've been listening to his older stuff for a while, and he seems to have some sort of Vaporwave background and he seemed to incoporate a very interesting and refreshing PC Music-esque type of sound to his beatz. PARKGOLF has inspired me to emphasize other overlooked elements within the Alt-Jpop palette.

Masayoshi Iimori

Iimori is probably one of the craziest EDM producers of Japan. His tracks follow the most conventional EDM structures and staples but he has proven that these limits have led him to make one of the most delirious, ridiculous, eclectic and unique EDM collages.

Moe Shop

I'm going to go straight to the point, I hate Future Funk. I will probably write an article titled 99 reasons why I hate Future Funk but with Moe Shop I must make an exception. Moe Shop is a French Jpop producer who makes ultra dizzy, funky, psychedelic and epileptic tracks that compliment vocals in a very unique way.

Midas P

Midas P is an obscure but not so obscure Korean Trap producer who has been making some noise in the Korean sc community. Member of Wayside Town, a very curious and somewhat informal crew who have been responsible in producing indie Trap bangers. Midas P has definitely been an inspiration to Alt-Jpop.

M.E.S.H.

M.E.S.H. is a very special producer for me, he is the most refined producer of Deconstructed Club. If you want the most quality and original Deconstructed Club, M.E.S.H. should be in your playlist. Me, DJ Melania and dj av have been listening to M.E.S.H. in small quantities, and it has served us good.
